Limpopo is bushveld: flat-topped thorn trees, red soil, and the low grey hills that run up to the Kruger National Park on the province’s eastern edge. It is the part of South Africa most people picture when they say safari, and the stays on this page range from tented camps on private reserves to farm cottages and lodges on the park boundary.
The distinction worth understanding before you book is inside the park or outside it. Camps inside Kruger are run by SANParks and follow park gate times and rules. Private reserves outside the fence run their own game drives, often with off-road access that the park does not allow. Neither is better; they are different holidays at different prices.
